Join the Capital District Genealogical Society members for their monthly meeting, followed by a livestream presentation by historian David Powell.
This is the story of Susannah Moore, widow of Revolutionary War veteran John Roe. Married at 16 to Roe while he was on furlough in 1779, she later sought a pension under the 1836 Pension Act after his death. Denied at first, she embarked on a determined fight to claim her rightful benefits, highlighting the complexities of the early pension system.
David Powell is President of the Empire State Society, Sons of the American Revolution (ESSSAR) through May 2025. A former National SAR Trustee and George Washington Fellow, he has also served as ESSSAR Vice President, Syracuse Chapter President, and NY State CAR Historian. Active in genealogical research for over 33 years, he remains engaged in SAR and CAR leadership.
